The occupational therapy staff at New Beginnings has introduced a fun new therapy called “Wii-hab”. The Nintendo® Wii™ is an innovative entertainment system that uses motion censors to allow players to participate in a host of exciting activities that get the body moving. The Wii is more than a game, it is an interactive occupational therapy tool for teaching balance, coordination and many other skills. The best part is that students no longer feel like they’re doing “work.”
The games are adapted to each child’s specific needs. For instance, if a child is unable to stand up or they are in a wheelchair, they can bowl sitting down, or swing the baseball bat using one arm.
